Darien, CT (November 10, 2010) – North American golfers are about to become acquainted with a popular golf region European travelers have long known about – the Estoril Coast of Portugal.
Thanks to a recent visit by the North American Golf Tour Operators’ Alliance (NAGTOA), this unheralded golf destination will be made available to their clients searching for an easily accessible golf destination with quality, picturesque course venues at great value all year round.
“The Lisbon and coastal areas of Sintra, Cascais and Estoril in Portugal are
often overlooked by the discerning golf traveler,” says Debbie Bussey, owner of Absolutely Golf & Travel and NAGTOA Chairman. “With outstanding food, fabulous wines and so much to see and do – history, beaches, palaces, museums, and casinos, Portugal is a European golf destination of great value and should not be missed.”
The NAGTOA’s five-day visit, hosted by Turismo De Portugal and Oitavos Dunes, was highlighted with golf at four of the more than 20 courses within an hour’s drive of the capital Lisbon. They included one of Europe’s gems at the Arthur Hills-designed Oitavos Dunes, a pair of Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designs at Penha Longa Golf Resort and Quinta da Marinha, plus the Estoril GC, host of the Portuguese Open 20 times.
Luxury accommodations were provided by The Oitavos Hotel, with all 142 rooms overlooking the Atlantic Ocean or golf course. The delegation from NAGTOA also enjoyed dinners courtesy of Hotel Albatroz in Cascais, Hotel Estoril Palacio and Fado Restaurant in the old neighborhood of Lisbon.
